Abstract
For this Independent Study, I used the Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium data set to perform preliminary different data analysis. Before performing this data analysis, it was essential to study what exactly the disease of breast cancer entails. From then on, the goal was to figure out which variables affect each other and rule out the ones that do not. The main focus was figuring out what influences a patient’s survival after diagnosis. From the research done so far, it has been found that the numerical components of the data such as the age of diagnosis and the tumor size had very little influence on the duration of the patient’s survival post diagnosis. There was however a strong relation between the stage of the tumor and the size of the tumor such that they could be factors that largely affect a patient’s survival. My research is still ongoing as there is a myriad of data analysis tools yet to be used.
