Abstract
For this Independent Study, we used the Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium data set to perform preliminary data analysis. This was to come up with potential mathematical models from the correlations we computed. The main focus was to figure out what influences a patient’s survival after diagnosis, and we found out that the stage of the tumor was an essential tool to figure out the prognosis of the patient. Additionally, our investigation yielded that the myc and the pdgfra genes had a significant relationship between mutation count and the age at diagnosis respectively. These results could lead to new fields of cancer study and the construction of other mathematical models.
