Abstract

The study aims to answer the question: Is the Arms Trade Treaty an effective form of arms trade regulation, or do the states that sign onto the treaty disregard its articles due to their interests? This will be accomplished through an investigative case study of two cases showing deviant behaviors. The study found explanations that support Liberal institutionalist thought and arguments that support the realist perspective on the subject. Adding additional studies of theoretical reasoning looking into deviant cases could add more knowledge to the study of the Arms Trade Treaty.
