Abstract
Black women have diverse forms of romantic relationships that affect many aspects of their lives. This current study examines the association between openness to Black-White interracial relationships and sexual assertion amongst Black emerging adult women. Participants (N=81) of African descent completed surveys regarding their dating experiences. Results from regression analyses did not support the hypothesized link between openness to interracial relationships and sexual assertion. Results suggest that higher levels of spirituality are associated with more Black-White interracial dating experience. This may suggest a unique phenomenon amongst Black women that requires more investigation. Further research is needed to distinguish a link between romantic relationship formation and sexual wellness amongst Black women in emerging adulthood.
