Abstract
This Independent Study seeks to understand how the Jesus of the King James’ Bible’s synoptic gospels appears as an educator by analyzing his use of the parabolic form and contemporary educational theories. By studying the King James Bible as literature, this study can focus on the intricacies and details of the synoptic gospels and the parabolic form. The study will examine three facets of Jesus the educator: servant, king, and man by evaluating the observations presented in the gospels of Mark, Matthew, and Luke. Each book presents the parable of the Sower, which is analyzed as the model for how Jesus used the parabolic form. The parables of the Secretly Growing Seed and Harvest, the Wicked Husbandmen, and the Good Samaritan, unique to Mark, Matthew, and Luke respectively, reveal Jesus’ objectives and educational theories he used to meet them according to the perspective of each book. Final thoughts discuss modern-day applications of the study including the application of educational theories for today’s educators, and a refreshing study of Jesus for theologians.
