Abstract
“Wide Open” seeks to communicate the beauty of the outdoors as I see it and analyze the benefits of being in such spaces, including what it can do for myself and others. Combining elements of screen printing and collage, the body of work is a meeting of different styles depicted in digital images. I use the lens of psychoanalysis to examine myself and question why I find solace in vast outdoor spaces, while working with them as my inspiration and starting point. The edited images serve in part to represent the unreliableness of our brains, and how often our memories are distorted after the fact. I hope this project encourages the viewer to engage with the world around them; use their hands to make, and to get outside.
