Abstract
Ray tracing plays a significant role in computer graphics; it is a technique used to generate photorealistic images. We first introduce the mathematics behind and a model of ray-traced graphics. We then focus on different ray tracing algorithms and use a method called uniform spatial subdivision to study the run time of a ray tracing algorithm. Then, we implement a ray tracer using the backward ray tracing algorithm. Finally, we model the Chicago Cloud Gate sculpture using an existing ray tracer named POV-Ray.
