Abstract
By examining articles by Butler and Squire, I argue that a new designation of poetry is needed to normalize disability for young adults (ages 17-30) by acknowledging that expectations of disability create the performance of disability. My work is useful in literature studies at the high school level because it explores the tension between Self, Body, and society to address the concept of authentic self and community identity.
