Abstract

A collection of humorous personal essays written in an effort to close the cognitive gab between "highly functioning" and "cognitively delayed" persons; this project contains a critical introduction that focuses on the genre of the personal essay as well as my writing process and deliberate choices made when constructing this Independent Study; six short essays chronicling my time working at a residential camp for people with disabilities, and an epilogue that allows readers to contrast the development of my views from the beginning of the summer to the end.
