Abstract
A study of the use of the realist mode in the structuring of two nineteenth-century novels, "La Peau de chagrin" by Honoré de Balzac and "Dvoinik" by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Though these works feature unrealistic elements they are nonetheless "realist" novels.
