Abstract
This paper examines three musical pieces: Viola Sonata in E-Flat Major by Johannes Brahms, Viola Sonata Opus 11, No. 4 by Paul Hindemith, and Passacaglia Duo for Violin and Viola by Johan Halvorsen. The pieces were analyzed musically as well as examined for their historical background and importance. Research was drawn from musical excerpts as well as books and letters concerning the composers of the pieces.
