Abstract
This Independent Study documents the Union Miles based Community Development Corporation NuPoint. My project includes two components, a research paper and a documentary. The paper studies Community Development Corporations as a construct, historical factors leading to NuPoint’s creation in the City of Cleveland, and analyzes NuPoint’s legacy of development projects. I used theoretical lenses such as the Right to the City, Community Building Constructs, and the Ecology of Games to analyze NuPoint’s legacy as a Community Development Corporation. The 8.5-minute documentary is titled NuPoint and Community Development on Cleveland’s Southeast Side. The documentary serves to profile the organization’s active work through three interviews, two with current employees and one with a business partner of the organization. I argue that NuPoint follows many traditional practices of CDC’s but innovates through emphasis on social programming and additional effort towards involving residents in community development projects.
