Abstract

This research analysis examines a case study of Nirmal Singhji Maharaj and his journey of spirituality, to study the impact of Gurus upon religious traditions. This is achieved through a close analysis of his characteristics from birth, up until the inception of his spiritual journey. The features of his that are studied here, help understand how and why Nirmal Singhji Maharaj chose this path of divinity. This is followed by an in-depth discussion and understanding of how he amassed such a massive number of followers from around the world, his respective relationships with them, how he aided their problems, and the type of rituals performed for this Guru that were different from other Gurus in India. It further touched upon the existence of Nirmal Singhji Maharaj after his unfortunate demise, and how he continues to live on in the beliefs of thousands of people around the globe, which also, attracting new devotees.

To make a sound, and well supported analysis as described above, I created and distributed questionnaires among six followers of Maharaj, who provided an account of their personal relationship with him, the rituals they have been performing, and how their journey since their respective introduction to Maharaj has changed and transformed them as an individual.

From here, I was able to gather real-life information regarding a devotee’s behavior towards that of Nirmal Singhji Maharaj, which I combined with the data received from books, blogs, and posts written about Maharaj’s charm, conduct, and performance with old and new believers of his.
