Abstract
The current research examines the effects of impulsivity, personality, and competitive attitudes on risky behavior in the context of video games. Based on previous research, this study proposes that high ratings in impulsivity, experience with Minecraft, competitive attitudes, and low ratings in Agreeableness and Conscientiousness, all contribute to individuals being more likely to make risky decisions when playing a competitive parkour map in Minecraft. I ran two studies due to the massive influence experience had on the results of Study 1, but I was only able to find consistent evidence for the influence of Conscientiousness on risky behavior. Experience in Study 1 yielded significant results as a predictor of risky behavior, but further research would need to be performed to confirm that it was not just due to user error. In Study 2, I found evidence for the influence of Conscientiousness on risky behavior, much like in Study 1, but no other factors returned significant results.
