Abstract

This research study aimed to gain insight into student satisfaction and well-being at small private colleges in the Midwest region of the United States. The first part of the study utilized RateMyProfessor data to analyze factors influencing student happiness. The analysis revealed that access to good facilities and a thriving social scene were strong predictors of student satisfaction. While college reputation exhibited a positive correlation with happiness, access to quality facilities emerged as a more influential factor. The study also identified limitations in the data, such as rating biases and sample representativeness, which should be considered when generalizing the findings.

In the second part of the study, a comprehensive survey was conducted at the College of Wooster to assess the feasibility of a student engagement application and identify features that would enhance students' college experience and satisfaction. The survey results indicated a strong desire for a centralized app that consolidates information and resources. Students expressed the need for easy access to important information, such as campus events, campus security contact numbers, building hours, menus of food places around campus, and safety alerts. By incorporating these suggestions, the app has the potential to streamline information dissemination and improve students' overall college experience.
