Abstract
This study investigates music consumption behaviors across different cultural landscapes, with a focus on one particular Streaming platform. Analyzing Spotify data from four countries, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, and Spain, the research addresses the potential impact of song characteristics and features on their rank in the Top 50 Spotify Chart and overall popularity. Using regression analysis, this study aimed to uncover the factors influencing song popularity in different regions and shed light on what makes a foreign track resonate and climb the charts. The findings suggest varying preferences and tendencies across nations. However, track characteristics such as tempo, energy, acousticness etc. do not play a significant role in music listening behavior on Spotify. The research still provides insights into the nuanced dynamics shaping the appeal of global music hits and highlights the complex interplay between track characteristics, cultural context, and listening behavior on a global music platform.
