Abstract

This paper aims to create a digital cultural repository about life at the College of Wooster in order to examine the ways user interface design choices affect the representation and presentation of significant cultural information in a digital setting. It does so through its study of the history of virtual museums and the use of contemporary technologies in museum and cultural contexts. It also examines general design principles as well as more specific guidelines for user interface design. The specific implementation of the College of Wooster Cultural Repository is also explained as a means to inspire other web designers and those who may be interested in the implementation of a digital cultural repository. Finally, it explains its motivations as well as potential ethical concerns and future work to be done regarding digital representation of cultural information, in the context of the College of Wooster, and in general.
