Abstract
In this research project, I investigate gender representations in Hip-Hop and how these gendered representations affect the identities of female Hip-Hop consumers. This study investigates the representation of those women who are labeled "video vixens," which are the women in music videos who are depicted as sexual objects in the Hip-Hop culture. Video vixens are viewed by younger women in a variety of ways, including as role models. I want to determine how video vixens impact the self-images of female Hip-Hop consumers.
