Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the tectonic setting and history of the Jamaica Passage and how the seismic stratigraphy applies to Haitian earthquakes. The research provides seismic interpretations of the Jamaica Passage’s largest basin, the Morant basin. The results display the location of the Enriquillo Plantain Garden Fault zone (EPGF) within the Morant basin, and this fault zone is responsible for consistent seismic activity near Haiti. The main goal of this project was to increase geologic understanding of the Jamaica Passage’s seismic activity so that predictions of the frequency of Haitian earthquakes are possible in the future.
