Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze how social support relates to on and off-the-field performance for college athletes. This was done through a survey that was sent out electronically to all current student-athletes provided by the college’s roster online. Seventy-three student-athletes participated in my survey. Questions about social support, coaching style of the head coach, identity, and stress were addressed. Many significant findings were found such as the higher the relationship quality the student-athletes had with their head coach, the more social support was perceived by the athletes. Another finding is that of stress being at lower scores with more social support being offered and accepted.
