Abstract

My topic of discussion is What is a Good Investment? I aim to look into investment with not only the conventional “better the return, better the investment” standard, but the moral/ethical consequences an investment might bring. With that in mind, I will try to define a “Good Investment” with ethics being part of the consideration and see what a good investment truly is. In the end, I aim to come up with my own set of moral standards when looking at investments, and focus on finding the best investment with not just the most monetary return, but also the most morally acceptable.

In the First Chapter I would be talking about the conventional investments, which is mostly to deal with the monetary factors of it; Moving on to the Second Chapter, I would bring in the moral aspect and talk about different moral theories from 5 different philosophers; In Chapter 3, I will take a look at some real life investment examples under the scope of the philosophers in Chapter 2, and see what they would think about these investments. Finally, in Chapter 4, I would be concluding the thesis by generating my own standard for a good investment based on the influences of the 5 philosophers.
