Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze viewer’s reactions to sports commentators. This was done through an electronic survey that included a randomly assigned 1-minute NFL clip and questions about the commentators seen in the clip based on their style, information they bring, the trust the viewer has towards them and how credible the broadcaster is. Findings from the 321 subjects showed that individuals with high athletic identity find sports broadcaster to be informative, credible, and trustworthy. Additionally, individuals think that generally the color commentator and play-by-play commentator do a good job of working with each other and NFL fans are generally satisfied with NFL broadcasts. Factors such as having a favorite NFL football team, having a favorite broadcast team, and being a college athlete did not yield many differences.
