Abstract

Basketball is an extremely popular sport in the United States and its admiration only continues to grow. With its popularity comes a bright spotlight for young and established athletes alike. Large contracts are handed to these players, and they often overspend their money despite being a part of one of the biggest industries in the country. The monetization of athletes has only increased, and it is more crucial than ever for these players to be equipped with basic financial knowledge. Finally, using primary data from semi-structured interviews with individuals involved in the world of professional basketball, I researched the question: why do so many professional basketball players go broke?
