Abstract
This study was conducted to look at the possibility that television shows - particularly reality television shows of the kind that can be easily seen both at home and in public spaces - normalize a certain way of looking at and performing class. To do this, the show Windy City Rehab that airs on HGTV was examined. This show was selected because it is easily accessible through streaming but is also one of the shows that is commonly shown in public spaces, meaning that even people who do not have cable may have been exposed to this show at places like their dentist’s office. Additionally, the simple and repetitive format of the show’s content allows for analysis to proceed smoothly into the smaller details of the program without getting stuck on the basics of what is occurring. In this study, many things were examined in order to make the examination of the television show Windy City Rehab the most comprehensive and accurate that was possible given the givens.
