Robert E. Wilson Professor - Chemistry, BCMB [Program Chair]: Mark Snider

The major in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (BCMB) was created in 2001 from the College's existing Biochemistry program, and today is administered jointly by the Biology and Chemistry Departments. BCMB majors study the functions of molecules found in biological systems to determine how these give rise to the properties of living organisms.

Recent IS projects include purification of bronchial mucous proteinase inhibitor from cystic fibrosis patients, the expression and purification of R254K and R254A mutants of human carbonic anhydrase II and an investigation of corneal tissues that have undergone photorefractive keratectomy using infrafred analysis.

The BCMB department is based in Severance and Mateer Halls.
