Abstract

Education in France is nationalized so that all students can receive the same, free, schooling. But it is almost impossible to really be able to give everyone the same education. This system is very near and dear to the French people’s hearts, but that does not mean it is perfect. The inequalities in the schools can be tied to the history and social inequalities. This study takes into account the past and present situations in the schools to be able to understand its limits. By studying the past we can better understand and judge the state in which the education system finds itself. I will look at how the government wants the education system to work ideally, and its realistic counterpart. To finalize my study, I will analyze two differing views of the education system through two French films. This study gives a critical view of education in France by researching where things can be improved.
