Abstract
Do You Ever Get Nightmares? is a photographic study depicting wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans within each of their respective rehabilitative states. Simultaneously, it is a self-study of my own journey to connect with and understand my father, a colonel in the U.S. Army. Through careful and compassion driven interviews, I was able to form genuine relationships with each person. This paper discusses my personal and artistic influences, conceptual and technical decisions, a brief history of war and photography in regards to the public’s perspective and finally the interviews and interactions of four different subjects that defined my process throughout this project.
