Description

The summer 2026 issue of Wooster magazine explores the role of mentorship in shaping inquiry, confidence, and lifelong learning at The College of Wooster. Features examine how personalized guidance supports student research through Independent Study, including projects by psychology and music, classical studies, physics, and computer science and neuroscience students that explored music cognition, ancient texts, consciousness, and distant galaxies. Additional featured stories highlight a faculty professional learning community focused on strengthening mentoring practices across campus and alumni Amber Rice ’01, Austin Russell ’19, Marcel El Kouri ’21, and Emily Beuter ’20, who carry forward the lessons and values of mentorship in the fields of evolutionary biology, graduate study, and teaching. Oak Grove features “Why I Play” with basketball guard, education and mathematics major, and physical education minor Mackenzie Riccitelli ’28, “Office Hours” with Dean for Curriculum & Academic Engagement Jen Bowen, and “Tartan Through Time,” exploring the history of students’ tradition of filling Kauke Arch with snow. The issue also celebrates the Class of 2026 and commencement speaker Jodi Nunnari ’84, a leader in the field of mitochondrial biology. Tartan Ties includes class notes, alumni events, Scot Volunteer with Bernice Walker ’86, and recent books published by alumni with an author profile with Lauren Bell ’94 and her book examining legislative developments in the U.S. and U.K.
