Written as a companion book to Young Lady's Friend, this is a book of etiquette for various common social situations. This first section covers letter-writing and invitations, the general rules of social manners, hospitality, appropriate forms and manners for different types of meals (breakfasts, lunches, luncheons, teas, and dinners), and the etiquette of social events from receptions to balls. Particular goals of women are discussed in Chapter IV, while young men are discussed in Chapter VI along with the "influence of sisters."
