Description
This letter was written by Mary to her farther during the spring of her freshman year at college. Composed on 5 small blue sheets of paper, most of the writing is in blue ink, with additions in pencil. In this letter, Mary talks about her plans for Easter break and a conference for Daily Vacation Bible School.
Transcription:
March 4.
Dear Dad,
Your letter received today. Our vacation starts - Wed noon April 1 and lasts till Wed. noon April 8. That is one week. Boots is going home - her folks wouldn’t listen to anything else It certainly would be fine if I couldn’t come home, to meet you in Toledo or Walbridge on the 2d or 3d or 4th ^of that week. - that would be Wed. Thur, Fri & Sat before Holy Week. We must be back at Wooster for Easter Sun. Am certainly anxious to know your decision. I will do exactly what you wish. It might help in D.V.B.S. work if I came home - Never thought of that before.
You must be busy alright - by the way you write.
(2) As to the Daily Vacation Bible School I think I wrote you concerning a D.V.B.S. conference to be held near here after school closes in June. Wish you would write back concerning that. You understand it is a favor that I would get to go. Please answer! They pay $75 a mo. for students - teaching - even to start with. They pay $100 a mo for those who take charge of schools. That is correct.
Will enjoy planning it I know. Must do some intensive planning soon. Tell me
(3) when does the school start and how to the ages run and also - could you send me reports from their last years work on numbers attended - different department etc. division of departments & whatever material I could work on. It will be so much easier to see already what has been done. I want to use young people as far as possible in teaching. I do wish you would look this up as soon as possible I would have a place
4) to start from. Not knowing the church well - puts me somewhat at sea - but I am thoroughly interested & I know we can make it go. Be sure to be free to make suggestions both general & specific ^often - I certainly want to use Esther more than likely in the primary dept.
Will the church pay all expenses? or will the children be obligated. There will be just loads of questions I will be asking from
5) now on - especially as I begin to plan.
Am anxious for an answer to this letter. Enjoyed your letter so much. Appreciated your reminding me about the money - especially in the way you did it-
