This letter was written by Mary to her father during her first semester of college. It is partially typed on the back of a sheet of blue stationery from the Father and Son Movement Milwaukee Committee; the letter is finished with black ink. Mary mentions expenses at school, including a scholarship she received for being a pastor's daughter, a party with friends, and being nervous about speaking at C.E.

Dear dad,

Thanks for check. It will soon be in the bank.Haven't [sic] spent a thing for 2 weeks until last night. The kids came up from Akron and 2 of them stayed all night. We had loads of fun. Had 25 of our friends up here in our room for a spread. Each brought something and we sure did eat. We sat on pillows on the floor. We were making toast and burn't the fuse out, so had to light candles. About 2:o'clock in the morning we had the most wonderful serenade I ever hope to have. I was so glad for the kids and it surely was a novelty for them.

I have very little time to finish this. I suppose I will have to go in the bathroom and finish it in a minuite [sic]. Lights go outat [sic] 9:30 on Sun. My big sister led C.E. tonight and she asked Boots and I to talk. Dad, its' awful to say, but I was plum scared. Every one goes to C.E. The topic was Brotherhood, not a very easy one.

Prexie, gave me a scholarship, which is given to all minister's children if alright. That means my tuition free. It has to be renued every year, but I guess that don't give another to you if they can help it, because there are so many P.K's who come here. Notice the change? I am now in the B.R. I drew all my money out of F.W.N.B. Had to pay for this semester $108.00 for board alone. $25 for room - lab fees - $40. - incidental $50.00 books - about - $112 or so - I'm keeping regular accounts of every cent. My gym outfit (regulation affair) was about 6.50. Had to buy a hockey stick for gym - that was $2.25 - etc etc school paper 2.00
