Abstract

This work will examine the possible outcomes of modern insurgency situations. There is a strong focus on the effect of military intelligence in counter-insurgent operations. We will start by focusing on a foundation in the Lanchester model and show how it has been adapted to apply to insurgency situations. This paper will continue by considering all possible results of a government force engaging an insurgency, including the overall conclusion that it is not possible to defeat an insurgency through brute force alone.
