Abstract
For this research I will be looking into the life of Jimmy Hoffa and the Teamsters union. My time period of focus will be in the 1950s through the 1970s and looking at the rise and fall of unions in America due to Hoffa. I will also be looking at the connections and roles that organized crime had on unions in general. My focus will be on the corruption of the Teamsters union and seeing how that played a role in loss of power within that union. I will also look at how the events that took place with Hoffa affected modern day trucking and unions. My goal of this research is to show a different side of Hoffa that many scholars have not explored. This is his reputation being the cause of the fall of the Teamsters union. I hope my research will bring new light onto the life and legacy of Hoffa.
