Abstract

This project seeks to understand the complexities of how Pope Pius XII was remembered. It has been debated and contested ever since his death and through the use of secondary and primary sources, I will explore where this debate is at today. With the debate of Pope Pius XII, it also asks the question as to how the Holocaust itself is remembered. Looking at how the US education system integrating the Holocaust shows how and why the United States remembers the Holocaust today. With this information, it calls for an ever-changing and new understanding of Pope Pius XII and the Holocaust itself. While I leave aside all judgment on Pope Pius XII, I instead look at how the debate itself has changed and where the debate is today.
