Abstract

This study focuses on music as a function and how music has helped preserve the culture of the Appalachian region. A survey was conducted to gain outside opinions of the region and the people that live in it. An interview was conducted with scholar on this subject and also a native of the Appalachian region. A statistical analysis will be conducted in order to understand the opinions and views of the respondents to the survey. All of this information will be used to show that music has helped preserve Appalachian culture more than any other cultural trait.
