Abstract

The current study examined the effects of pornographic influence on gender stereotypes and men's romantic-relationship preferences. Forty-eight heterosexual, male participants were asked about their thoughts and feelings about a variety of topics, including, pornography, sexual preferences and history, and romantic relationship experiences. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two conditions: sexual explicit condition (e.g., reading a sexual vignette) or neutral condition (e.g., reading a sitcom storyline). Results suggest that participants were influenced in sexually explicit condition, in regard to sexual preferences and history, and romantic relationship experiences. These findings suggest that men may be influenced by pornography.
