Abstract

Alcohol consumption has been an ongoing problem for college students across the nation. This study investigated the personality traits and levels of alcohol consumption by athletes at The College of Wooster compared to the national norms of college students as found by the Harvard School of Public Health's College Alcohol Study (CAS). Intercollegiate athletes (n = 191) were asked to complete the CAS and a general personality questionnaire. Results found that athletes at The College of Wooster consume more alcohol than does the national average of college students. Also, The College of Wooster athletes scored high in 4 of 5 categories of personality, while scoring low in neuroticism.
