Associate Professor - Middle Eastern & North African Studies, Religious Studies, Department Chair of History: Joan Friedman

The History major at Wooster aims to provide students with deep and substantial historical knowledge and a strong grounding in historical research methods. Coursework and mentored study develop superior skills in communicating ideas, persuasive writing, and an excellent foundation in critical thinking. The department places few limits on the type of topics students can pursue for their Senior IS, with recent submissions ranging from Japanese animation, the CIA in Cold War Berlin, the pranks of British seamen in the Napoleonic era, and cemetery preservation in Wayne County. The History Senior IS program also allows for a diverse range of alternative means of presentation, with past majors completing their IS in the form of a public exhibition, historical novel, documentary film, and high school curriculum.

The History department is located in Kauke Hall.
