Department Chair, Lewis M. and Marian Senter Nixon Professor of Natural Sciences, Professor: Mark Wilson

The major in Geology incorporates principles of physics, chemistry, and biology for an interdisciplinary approach in understanding Earth's history and natural processes. This broad foundation in the natural sciences is coupled with diverse lab and field work with rocks and fossils. All majors are encouraged to engage in field work (in locations ranging from Alaska to Israel) during the summer between their junior and senior years, with this experience often forming the basis for their senior research projects.

Recent Senior Is projects have studied issues in regional geology, glaciology, sedimentology, paleontology, petrology and plate tectonics.

The Geology department is located in Scovel Hall.
