Associate Professor - Biology [Department Chair], BCMB: Stephanie Strand

A Biology major at the College of Wooster is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the cellular, organismal and population levels of biological organization. The major also allows for the pursuit of a speciality in terms of upper level courses; students are required to choose six 300/400 level classes from a diverse selection. In the past, Biology IS students have worked in conjunction with off-campus institutes such as the Cleveland Clinic, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, the NIH and the NIMH.

Recent IS topics have included the effects of air pollution on lichen populations, the role of neurotonin-1 protein in mediating hyperexcitation of cultured nerve cells and the role of early experience in developing the stress response in animals.

The Biology department is based in Mateer Hall.
